Kindle Fire advances to the global market - Público.pt

Amazon announced it will sell in over 170 countries, including Portugal, the tablet Kindle Fire HD, thus extending the marketing of the device to virtually everyone.

Kindle Fire HD is the second generation of tablet equipped with its own version of the Android operating system and will be the first of equipment that will sell for U.S. multinational Portugal. Until now, customers could buy in Portugal only eBook readers with electronic ink screens. The shipment to the customer begins June 13.

The company has also widened to 200 countries its application store for Android, Amazon Appstore, which competes with Google store. Until now, was only available in the U.S., UK, Germany, Italy and Spain.

The Kindle Fire is available in two screen sizes: 8.9 inches and seven. Each of these models is sold with different storage capacities: 16GB or 32GB. Both have wifi connectivity (but no 3G) and front camera.

Amazon launched the original Kindle Fire as a tablet low cost and more as a gateway for content that sells: magazines, newspapers, electronic books, music. “The Kindle Fire is a service,” the company wrote in a statement announcing the extension of marketing, referring to the integration of the device with the Amazon ecosystem.

There are no official figures on the sale of these tablets , but the analyst IDC estimates that in the last quarter of last year, have been sold six million units, giving Amazon a market share of 11.5% and third place in the list of manufacturers, behind Samsung (15.1%) and Apple (43.6%).
