COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho – These days, many people do much of their reading electronically.
The Coeur d’alene Library is adapting to recent trends and trying something new; readers can now check out Kindles.
Library staff said they want to follow the model of larger libraries across the country. They also said that transitioning to Kindles will help them meet high demands.
the Best-selling books are always popular, so the addition of Kindles as well as help the library offer more copies to those who want them.
The Kindles will come with the pouch and charger, as well as five pre-loaded e-books. Essentially, readers will get five best-selling books with one rental. The Kindles are not equipped with browsers, so they are strictly for reading purposes.
Staff said the devices are part of the overall growth of how people receive information.
"It gives us more tools for people to share the books and material we have. We understand that technology is going to have to change and the libraries are going to need to find ways to fit into that niche," said library employee David Townsend.
The Kindles can be found on the library’s catalog the "High-Demand Fiction (Coeur d’alene) Kindle eReader."
Though the library said they are trying to adapt to changing technologies, printed books will always be preferred over electronic books.
