Waterstones takes Amazon’s Kindle off shelves after ‘pitiful’ sales – Telegraph.co.uk

The two retailers teamed up to sell Amazon’s device in 2012, in an attempt to bring the the digital into bookseller acts. However, although Amazon says Kindle book sales are growing, They never destroyed printed books.

Earlier this year, Mr Daunt said sales of the Kindle had “disappeared”

An Amazon spokesman said:. “We are pleased with the momentum and growing distribution positive of Kindle and Fire tablet sales – our devices are now available in over 2,500 retail locations across the UK , including Argos, Tesco, Dixons, John Lewis and recent additions like Sainsbury’s, Boots and Shop Direct.

“Our UK, US and worldwide Kindle book sales are growing in 2015.”

According to the Association of American Publishers, e-book sales fell 10 per cent in the first five months of the year in the US.

The Voyage Kindle, released in 2014, is the company's highest resolution e-reader device yet. Its 6 inch display Has Been designed to feel like a piece of high-quality paper, and has adaptive LEDs to illuminate the screen depending on the environment. The Voyage Also uses a new method of turning pages, called 'PagePress'. There are sensors on either side of the screen and if pressed it turns the page.
