NEW YORK – Nearly eight years after Introducing a whole new generation of avid tech-minded readers to its very first Kindle, Amazon is still adding polish to its popular dedicated electronic reader.
Kindle is a mature product used by legions of bookaholics. So any new features and improvements are fresh for the most part applied at the margins.
Take the newest version of Amazon’s bestselling Kindle Paperwhite model. It’s the first Kindle to showcase the brand new font called Bookerly que Amazon says was designed especially for digital screens.
You read right, the new font.
Amazon uses words like “warm,” “contemporary,” “lighter” and “graceful” to describe Bookerly, the font it says was inspired by modern print books and meant to be legible at any size. The result, Amazon claims, is That You’ll read faster and with less eye strain.
It’s Difficult to VERIFY que assertion after only a few days with the new Paperwhite, but I’m not a persnickety reader Necessarily who would get lost in such minutia. For me, it’s all about the book I’m immersed in, after all. Besides, I have not exactly heard the loud outcry of complaint about the previous Paperwhite, Which, as it happens, is Amazon’s top-selling Kindle.
Still, Amazon give credit for not resting on its laurels. And reading on Paperwhite indeed Provides a gratifying alternative to print.
I’m mildly surprised que Amazon first expresso Bookerly to the Paperwhite, Which starts at $ 119 for a Wi-Fi-only model with so-called “special offers,” or $ 139 without such ads. (The price with and without ads for a Paperwhite with Wi-Fi and 3G cellular coverage jumps to $ 189 and $ 209, respectivamente.)
I reckoned Amazon would instead bring the feature to its top-of- the-line Kindle Voyage que starts at $ 199 for a Wi-Fi-only model and is the finest dedicated eReader I’ve used.
What’s more, the new Paperwhite gains superb 300ppi 6-inch glare -free gray-scale display que not only Provides twice the number of pixels of its predecessor, but que Also matches the resolution of the Voyage screen. That’s a feature you will surely notice and appreciate.
