The MB Review tested the Kindle Paperwhite, an e-book reader with 6 inch screen and a resolution of 1,430 × 1,080 pixels, with twice the pixels of the previous model ( after the Amazon ). The result is that the pixels of 300 dots per inch density is really excellent, and is virtually impossible to detect a defect in type.

The screen brightness was also much improved, and provides a full account of the message to read under the most inclement sun, although not as high as brightness Kindle Voyage, the Top Amazon line that we also intend to test soon.

The perfect travel companion

With only 9.1 mm thick and very light, Kindle Paperwhite is a perfect travel companion for anyone who loves to read. The version we tested was the WiFi, I recommend. The weight difference between them is not so much ( 206 grams of Wi-Fi against 215 3G version ), but as it is something you will use on a daily basis, I would choose the Kindle lighter .

The brightness is also slightly yellow, which in the long term seems to be more comfortable for the eyes, but is actually a detail, hard to see. The change of page is much faster, and this rather facilitates and in the reader’s immersion in his book. On the back, the Kindle name gives space a giant Amazon. The rear rubber, as in previous models, it is very slippery, so the use of a case is recommended.

Battery

At the side of the screen The battery is one of the highlights of the Paperwhite, and lasts for six weeks on standby, that with 30 minutes of use per day ( according to information from Amazon ). If you are like me and read much more than this, it will certainly last less, but still you will forget you need to load the Kindle, and when he perhaps warn you that the battery is low, it will still work for some hours before you actually have to put it in the socket.

New system

The new Kindle system has very interesting features, and if you select a word, can check what is your definition in the dictionary or Wikipedia and even translate the term into another language, all without leaving the window.

The navigation between pages was also much more intuitive, showing the page on a window in the middle, so you can navigate forward and backward, and when you want to go to the point, click in the middle, or click on the edges and back to the exact point at which you were reading originally.

The new default font is Bookerly created for the user to read faster, “without straining your eyes.” It is not available in earlier versions of Kindle, even after the system update.

For what reason have a dedicated reader?

We can spend hours and hours discussing here is better read a paper book, or maybe even read on the Kindle app on the iPad, iPhone or an Android tablet, but this is a matter of personal taste. I respect everyone’s opinion, but for me, the best is the Kindle, and in both cases.

The only exception is when I need to do a lot of notes, off it, I’m more the Kindle, and a very simple reason, and not bring distractions like social networks and games, the great advantage of a book reader dedicated as the Paperwhite is that, with its 4 GB capacity, you have space to store a true library in your pocket or schoolbag. It’s liberating power take all that you want to read to you, and so in the middle of a flight to the other side of the world can choose from a wide selection of books which will be the next to be devoured. When in doubt of what to read? The Paperwhite has full integration with your account on Goodreads, so you can see the list of books you want to read before you buy them.

Although still not coping well with PDFs, Kindle Paperwhite is perfect to what is proposed. Already very I read on the iPad or smartphones with big screen, but since I bought my first Paperwhite, prefer to use it. Even leaving aside the issue of battery, I do not want to direct illumination of the screen of an OLED or LCD screen in my face while I’m reading. Lighting Kindle is not direct, from the sides and is much more subtle.
