Device encryption can be a great way to keep your data secure in case it falls into the wrong hands. For many users, However, it can be overkill and there’s usually a performance hit to a device that’s been encrypted. Using a PIN code to lock the device is usually an effective deterrent and software tools like Find My iPhone and Android Device Manager can help track, lock, or wipe lost devices.

Unfortunately for Kindle Fire HDX owners, there’s no app available that’s comparable to Find My iPhone or Android Device Manager. If you want to be extra cautious with your date or if you’re using the Kindle Fire HDX in an enterprise environment, here’s how to encrypt it:

Step 1 : Make sure you have the latest version of Fire OS installed, then fully charge your Kindle Fire HDX

.

Step 2 : With your Kindle Fire HDX plugged in to the wall charger, go to Settings> Security, then select Encryption

Step 5 : After you’ve Entered your encryption password, tap the “Continue” button to begin the encryption process

Your Kindle Fire HDX will reboot, then begin encrypting. Depending on the amount of data stored on your Kindle Fire HDX, the process Could take up to an hour to complete, though our test only took 12 minutes Kindle.

Keep in mind

que there’s no way to decrypt your Kindle Fire HDX once it’s been encrypted. To remove the encryption, you’ll have to perform a factory reset and erase all your data. Amazon knocks 20% off all Kindle Fire tablets until 4 March - CNET UK

src=”http://cdn-static.cnet.co.uk/i/c/blg/cat/mobiles/kindle-fire-hdx-7inch-m.jpg”

If you’ve been umming and ahhing over Whether to buy the Kindle Fire tablet, Amazon this latest sale Could sway you. Until March 4, the retailer is slashing the price of all its tablets by 20 per cent. It does these kinds of sales quite often, but this is the biggest price cut yet.

That means the Kindle Fire Will Set You HDX back ? 159.20 instead of the usual 199 ?, the HDX is 8.9 ? ? 263.20 instead of 329, the Fire HD is ? ? 95.20 instead of 119, and the Fire HD 8.9 is now ? ? 127.20 instead of 159.

Buy any of the above, and you’ll get a free 30-day trial of Amazon Prime, Which includes Amazon Prime Instant Video, Which launches today. This gives you 15,000 films and TV shows to watch, including Alpha House – the first production by Amazon Studios -. Which stars John Goodman

The price of

Prime has gone up, Which Amazon is less keen to publicize. It’s now ? 79 for a year instead of 49 ? – that price includes the cost of Prime Instant Video. There’s no way to opt out of Amazon’s new movies and TV service. I’ve seen a few people on Twitter saying they’re quitting Prime because of the new high price.

The sale price of the Kindle Fire makes it ? HDX 40 cheaper than Google’s Nexus 7, but the the saying goes, look before you leap. The HDX is a nice piece of kit, but its software is sadly hobbled here in the UK, giving you far fewer features than the competition.

Will you be splashing out on a new tablet in Amazon’s sale? What do you think of it putting up the price of Amazon Prime? Is it a good deal for both services? Or a shameless attempt to push its new streaming offering? Let me know in the comments, or on our Facebook page.

We tested the new Kindle Paperwhite, e-reader from Amazon - Journal Times

New Kindle Paperwhite (Reuters)

Since the digital revolution has reached the most primitive means of reading by means of devices for reading books, I indulged myself in technology. Open a book was easy, but in a machine for this purpose that remains is practical – and sometimes distracting.

With e-readers, is simple to assemble an infinite library of books – if lacking space, do not worry, they are saved in the cloud and can be read with a simple internet connection. You can read in the dark with the new screens lit – promise not to tire the eyes, but the head, after long hours of reading. And are portable and lightweight – carry in the car, purse, on the beach, in the bathroom (you can upload The Idiot and its more than 400 kbytes endless pages that wallet never been easier to read. Dostoyevsky). Moreover, the tablets come with ease the reading aspect, as they try to imitate the ink on the paper on a screen, making very close experience of reading a physical book. The downside is gather as many books and switch your reading so many times you run the risk of reading too, but few titles integers.

One of the most famous devices for this purpose, Kindle, produced by US company American Amazon, reached the Brazilian market late last year with a subtle reshaping out (won the brand “Amazon” on the back instead of “Kindle”), but more powerful inside (so won the complement new “Paperwhite”, an update of Paperwhite version released last year). It competes with the unit of the Canadian Kobo, the Kobo Aura HD also available in the country

The sixth generation Kindle perfected his greatest asset:. Indoor lighting. This light technology, patented by Amazon, it was good in the first version of Paperwhite, distributing light across the screen with a lower incidence of dark spots. Now the screen is whiter (the previous was more bluish), black is sharper and more defined fonts slightly compared to its predecessor. There are few typefaces compared to the Kobo. There is a new “button” that you can achieve maximum light level. Yet still perfectionists will appreciate points on the screen where light is not uniform. Overall none of this makes much difference. Read the Kindle is nice.

improvements are allowed because of a faster processor. I have the first version of Paperwhite. In one test, it became clear that “turn” a digital page was thousandths of a second faster in the new version. Something that makes a difference in reading longer, mark a favorite passage and export it to Facebook or even do searches or notes on passages in a book. The new Kindle Page Flip, accessible within two clicks from reading a title, lets you navigate the next pages without leaving the point where you stopped reading. Important if you want to know how can last a long passage of some Russian author to abandon the reading and go to bed

Enter the Kindle screen went faster and more accurate -. However, the experience still leaves the desired. For those accustomed to writing on screens with your fingers, it is difficult to set the spelling of a word first. You need to rewrite slowly.

>> Check out other tests of the Week

A new feature promises to educate the reader. Coined as “vocabulary builder”, he keeps every word you searched. To access them, simply jump to that function and study them later. It might be interesting if you are learning another language or if you want to start in the Portuguese language classics.

The Kindle battery will last according to the addiction of the player. In my tests, it never lasted more than a week, reading on average a half hour a day with Wi-Fi turned on. Amazon promises up to a month and a half of battery with 30 minutes of daily use and with the internet disconnected.

New Kindle Paperwhite (Reuters)

The main menu of the Kindle got a “G” button. For him, it is possible to connect to the American social network of readers in GoodReads. So, you can get directions readings, reviews and authors who enjoy following. In practice, few Brazilian friends are on the social network and the maximum profit that took her Kindle, find that a friend was a bad book rated with five stars. However, you can arrange for the social network, their future readings on a virtual bookshelf. There is even a parental control that restricts user access to the Amazon store.

One of the coolest things of the e-reader is its varied form of integration. The “Whispersync” Amazon allows you to buy a book on your website. Then read it on kindle, on mobile, on desktop. Resuming play at the point where it stopped suddenly on another device. Simple. The supply of books at the online store Amazon is also a high point. There are nearly 30,000 titles in Portuguese and thousands in other languages. Low are the prices of several books, many weekly specials.

My favorite feature of the device remains the Send to Kindle. I love reading texts giants, but the task is obnoxious on computer screens. Thus, except in Word files and send them directly to Kindle with two clicks. Also gives to send to your Kindle PDF files, notepad and other -. Including MOBI (text format Kindle)

In general, if you have very old versions of the book devices and worth’re a regular reader, it load the new Paperwhite there. If you already have a version of Paperwhite launched in the first half of last year did not feel big difference in the reading experience for the new model. Comparing to other devices, he wins because of more modern and functional illuminated screen.

The new Paperwhite arrived in the country only in Wi-Fi version and Amazon does not plan to launch the current model with an integrated version with Free iliminado 3G, as in the previous version (which cost £ 699, far more than the R $ 479 for the Wi-Fi version, by the way, the same price model released now). The concurrent model Kobo Aura HD costs $ 659.
Can you buy the new Kindle in online stores Pontofrio, Extra and Giraffes, beyond the physical stores of the Village Bookstore.

Strengths:
– Best device with screen that mimics the role, lightweight and portable
– The new lighting technology not easy on the eye and makes the reading experience even better
– Integration with the Amazon store, other devices such as tablets and mobile phones, as well as storing your library “in the cloud” and send texts saved in Word to Kindle with an application

Weaknesses:
– Amazon promises six weeks reading for 30 minutes a day without the internet connected. Voracious and online readers need to take once a week
– Few options for typefaces and no option to justify
Text – Despite advances, does not completely replace the experience of reading on paper – but it’s almost there
